Hobbit House (Midget Bar, Manila)

Hobbit House is a bar, restaurant and live music venue located in Ermita, Manila. It also has a branch in Boracay. It is themed after the hobbits from the Lord of the Rings and in particular, all its waiters are midgets, small people, dwarfs.

At first I thought it was not really appropriate as I felt they were made fun of, but in the end it is a great way for many of them to get a steady job. People don't come to the Hobbit House to mock but first and foremost because of the friendly and unique atmosphere and the music.

It has become somewhat touristy and you'll see many foreigners inside. You can even buy some merchandising. It has prompted the opening of the Ringside Bar in Makati where you can fight in a ring against midgets.

They have decent yet overpriced Western and Filipino food, a wide range of imported beers and daily-changing live bands (singing the same songs though).

Overall: A good night out must always have something peculiar, and for that reason, I would include the Hobbit House at the beginning of a night out/pub crawl for a few drinks. It is a great place to warm-up.
